Caring for vintage is less about washing more and more about knowing when not to.

Every piece is carefully cleaned, refreshed, or professionally treated according to its material, age, and condition before you receive it. We favor fragrance-free, non-toxic cleaning products and gentle methods whenever appropriate, and never add artificial fragrance. The Atelier is a smoke-free environment. Pieces are stored with dried lavender and cedar wood for their natural fragrance and traditional protective properties.

Vintage garments can behave differently from their modern counterparts. Care labels may be missing or outdated, and age, previous alterations, dyes, and construction can all affect how a piece should be treated. WHEN IN DOUBT, DON'T WASH IT. Professional cleaning by someone experienced with vintage and delicate garments is always the safer choice.

Cashmere & Wool
Hand wash gently in cool water when appropriate. Never wring. Lay flat to dry and store folded.

Silk
Avoid soaking, harsh detergents, and agitation. Delicate or vintage silk is often best professionally cleaned.

Linen & Cotton
Wash gently in cool water and air dry when possible. Avoid high heat.

Rayon & Synthetics
Most can be machine washed and dried on low heat or, preferably, air dried. Always check the garment's specific care instructions, as some vintage pieces may require more delicate treatment.

Beading & Embellishment
Avoid machine washing. Embellished pieces are best professionally cleaned.

Leather & Suede
Keep dry and away from unnecessary moisture. Use a specialist for stains or significant cleaning.

Delicates & Swimwear
Hand wash or use a delicate cycle with cold water, then air dry.
